The Maryland Terrapins return to the newly named SECU Field in College Park, Maryland feeling good about themselves after just falling short against the No. 4 ranked Michigan Wolverines in Ann Arbor. The Terps lost by a touchdown but actually had a lead in the game, and if not for a blown call on an interception where replay was not used, who knows. So today, the other big team from the state of Michigan, the Michigan State Spartans come to College Park to face the young and hungry 3-1 Terps of Maryland.

This annual matchup between Maryland and Michigan State has been very one-sided since the Terps joined the Big-10 as the Spartans have a 6-1 record all-time before today’s matchup. Michigan State enters this game with a 2-2 record.

The chance to win for Maryland seems to be with QB Taulia Tagovailoa showing up big in this one. He got banged up and replaced late in the game against Michigan and his replacement Billy Edwards Jr. marched the Terps down the field for a quick touchdown. And the Terps have to get their talented RB Roman Hemby, more involved in the game this week especially with the wet weather. Hemby last week only rushed for 48 yards on 16 carries.

The Terps were very disciplined last week and kept the penalties to a minimum which led to more sustained drives. The defense has to be more effective in 3rd down plays to put pressure on the quarterback.

Maryland and Michigan State are scheduled to kick off at 3:30 PM on FOX Sports 1. Expect temperatures in the high 50’s most of the game with rain in the forecast from the remnants of Hurricane Ian.

The Vegas odds have Maryland at -7.5 as the favorites, and the Over/Under is 57.5.
