The Maryland Terrapins have another huge Big10 game this afternoon at the XFINITY Center in College Park, Maryland facing the Indiana Hoosiers. The 8-12 Terps need a signature win to restart the final push in their season as the calendar turned to February.
Purdue comes in ranked No. 12 for this tip at 1:00 pm tip-off. Four of the eight games for the Terps in February will come at the XFINITY Center. Most importantly, after a tough stretch, the Terps will only face a pair of current ranked AP Top 25 teams in that stretch beginning with Purdue today and ending at No. 5 Nebraska. Four of those games will also come against four teams in the bottom half of the conference standings.
Diggy Coit earned a number of awards last week following his performances at USC and against Penn State. He was named the Big Ten Co-Player of the Week, AP National Player of the Week, and was one of five USBWA National Player of the Week honorees after averaging 36.5 points highlighted by his 13-of-26 shooting from deep. Fans were treated to a spectacular performance by Coit last Sunday against the Nittany Lions as he posted his second 40-point game of the year in the win. His 43 points set a new XFINITY Center scoring record and was one shy of matching the program record set by Ernie Graham in 1978. Coit’s nine three pointers also tied the program’s single-game record, while the team’s 18 made triples set a new standard.
TERPS VS. BOILERMAKERS …
▶ The Terps are 6-10 all-time against Purdue with the Boilermakers having won four of the last five meetings.
▶ The Maryland win in that stretch came in College Park on Feb. 16, 2023 – a 68-54 victory over Purdue which was ranked No. 3 nationally and prompted a court storm at the XFINITY Center.
On April 2, 2025, Buzz Williams was named head coach at Maryland after re-building Texas A&M into a program that reached three consecutive NCAA Tournaments. For his career, he is seeking to become one of just three NCAA Division I head coaches to post 100 career wins at four different institutions joining Maryland Hall of Fame Coach Lefty Driesell (Davidson, Maryland, James Madison, Georgia State) and Steve Alford (Iowa, New Mexico, UCLA, Nevada).
