The Maryland Terrapins have star freshman, Malik Washington, as their quarterback with his eighth career start in this game. This is a tough one as the Terps face Indiana and their No. 2 ranking in the country. Indiana brings a top pass rush with 29 sacks on the season, and the key will be protecting Washington.
The Terps are 4-3 to start the season and 1-3 in the Big Ten conference — and the team has three consecutive losses where they led in the 4th quarter. How close would Maryland be to 7-0 if they just made an extra play or two in the game?
Maryland has won 18 straight non-conference games, which is the longest active streak in the FBS. In all 18 games, the Terps have allowed less than 30 points. That is the longest such streak by any Big Ten team over the last 45 years.
In the Locksley era (2019-pres.), the Terps are 20-1 in non-conference games.Maryland’s average of 40.1 points per game in non-conference play ranks seventh in the nation, only trailing Tennessee, Alabama, Oklahoma, Ole Miss, LSU and Ohio State. The Terps have scored 30+ points in 17-of-21 non-conference games under Locksley.
Maryland’s secondary has been dominant, leading the Big Ten and ranking second in the nation with 14 interceptions through seven games, only trailing Southern Miss with 15 who played eight games. Maryland leads the FBS with a +1.57 turnover differential. The Terps have forced 16 opponent turnovers, while only committing five turnovers. Maryland is one of only two Big Ten teams and one of four FBS teams that have yet to allow a score on an opponent’s opening drive (Nebraska, UCF, and Texas Tech). The Terps rank sixth in the Big Ten and 18th nationally in scoring defense, allowing just 17.3 points per game.
The Terps offensive line has allowed just three sacks this season, the third fewest nationally and tied with Ohio State for the best in the Big Ten.

Malik’s a little older than his years in the way he handles things, and best part about it is he’s only going to get better.
