The Maryland Terrapins have star freshman, Malik Washington, as their quarterback with four career starts under his belt. Coming off of a win in Wisconsin and last week’s bye, Maryland has their second Big Ten conference game today against the Washington Huskies.

Heading into Family Weekend vs. Washington, the Terps are 4-0 to start the season for the third time in the last five years. Since 2021, they are tied for the second-most 4-0 starts in the country, trailing only Oregon and Penn State (each with four). The Terps are one of just 20 undefeated teams remaining in FBS football. Maryland is looking to go 5-0 for the 10th time in program history (1893, 1951, 1952, 1953, 1955, 1976, 1978, 2001, 2023).

Maryland has won 18 straight non-conference games, which is the longest active streak in the FBS. In all 18 games, the Terps have allowed less than 30 points. That is the longest such streak by any Big Ten team over the last 45 years.

In the Locksley era (2019-pres.), the Terps are 20-1 in non-conference games.Maryland’s average of 40.1 points per game in non-conference play ranks seventh in the nation, only trailing Tennessee, Alabama, Oklahoma, Ole Miss, LSU and Ohio State. The Terps have scored 30+ points in 17-of-21 non-conference games under Locksley.

Malik Washington leads all FBS true freshmen with 259.5 passing yards per game and is tied with Cal’s Jaron-Keawe Sagapolutele (who has played five games) for the most touchdown passes among true freshmen, with eight through four games. Washington’s 1038 yards are the second-most by a true freshman through four career games in a Power Conference since 2019.The last true freshman playing in Power Conference football to have more passing yards through four games was Jayden Daniels when he was with Arizona State and had 1073 yards passing yards in 2019. Washington is just the fifth Power Conference quarterback since 2019 to record at least 80 completions through the first four games of a season. Only South Carolina’s Ryan Hilinski (88), Cal’s Jaron-Keawe Sagapolutele (88), Mississippi State’s Will Rogers (83), and Nebraska’s Dylan Raiola (83) have completed more.

Malik’s a little older than his years in the way he handles things, and best part about it is he’s only going to get better.
