The Maryland Terrapins have star freshman, Malik Washington, as their quarterback with two career starts under his belt. Today, he takes on another team from the Maryland university program with Towson University in SECU Stadium today for a noon start. Towson also enters this game with a 2-0 record.

Maryland has won 17 straight non-conference games, which is the longest active streak in the FBS. In all 17 games, the Terps have allowed less than 30 points. That is the longest such streak by any Big Ten team over the last 45 years.

In the Locksley era (2019-pres.), the Terps are 19-1 in non-conference games.Maryland’s average of 40.1 points per game in non-conference play ranks seventh in the nation, only trailing Tennessee, Alabama, Oklahoma, Ole Miss, LSU and Ohio State. The Terps have scored 30+ points in 16-of-20 non-conference games under Locksley.

Malik Washington leads all FBS true freshmen with 512 passing yards and five touchdowns through two games. He is just the fourth Maryland quarterback in the last 30 seasons to reach both marks after two games, joining: Taulia Tagovailoa (2021), Josh Jackson (2019), and C.J. Brown (2013). Washington’s 512 yards are the most-most by a true freshman through two career games in the Power Five since 2020. The last true freshman playing in Power 5 football to have more passing yards through his first two games was Washington State’s Jayden de Laura (548) from Nov. 7-14 2020.

Malik’s a little older than his years in the way he handles things, and best part about it is he’s only going to get better.
